A Lowbrook Academy student recently finished runner-up in an international tennis competition event held in Nottingham.

Nishta Kesavan, a year-six student at the Academy in Cox Green made it all the way to the final of the u12s doubles in the Tennis Europe event at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

With playing partner, Sienna Charsley, from Sussex, the 11-year-old saw off opponents from Portugal, Poland, and Romania to meet British opposition in the final of the doubles on Saturday, February 24.

The pair put up quite a fight against the u12s Winter Europe Cup champions but went down to a 6-2, 7-5 defeat.

Nishta also played in the u12s British Nationals event at the Corby Tennis Centre from February 10-14. In that event, she made it through to the round of 16, finishing 12th of the 32 competitors in the singles event.

She also reached the quarterfinals in the doubles event, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals after she and her partner lost a match-deciding tiebreaker by just two points.

She also competed in a Grade 3 u14s doubles event at the Tipton Sports Academy before going to Nottingham and competing at the Tennis Europe event.

The 11-year-old has been coached by Nigel Mann at Maidenhead Lawn Tennis Club and has trained at the Delgado and Lee Tennis Academy in Bisham Abbey, Marlow, since April 2023.

She is currently ranked number 1 for her age group in Berkshire and number 22 across the country, however, she expects to be in the top 20 for her age group when the new UK rankings are released next week.
