It’s official: these are Europe’s best pizzerias

Pizza is probably the most universally-adored food, and there are millions of restaurants all over the world stretching their dough, dolloping their passata and drooping their mozzarella onto their own recreations of the wonderful stuff.

But some are a cut – or a slice – above the rest. 50 Top Pizza just named the best pizzerias in Europe at an awards ceremony in Madrid, and the results might surprise you.

That’s because the best pizza in Europe is actually in … Chiswick, London. That’s right – Napoli on the Road, a celebrated pizzeria in west London, claimed the top spot. But the restaurant isn’t a stranger to success as last year founder and head chef Michele Pascarella was crowned the world’s best pizza chef. Yes, he’s Italian – shocker

Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona came second, and Via Toledo Enopizzeria in Vienna came third, however, it was Spain that actually made the most appearances on this list, with seven entries. England had six, and France had five.

You’re probably wondering where Italy is in all of this. Well, the home of pizza actually has its own category at the awards, and the winners will be named in Milan on July 10. Why not fill-up on last year’s list?
