Greek Commissioner commits to advancing sustainable transport and tourism in Europe | TornosNews.gr

The newly approved EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, pledged to dedicate all his efforts to his significant new role following the European Parliament’s approval of the new College of Commissioners, ANA reports.

“This marks a new chapter for Europe and for me personally, as I officially assume my duties as the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism,” Tzitzikostas stated. “The trust shown by the European Parliament, representing the citizens of Europe, is a great honor and responsibility. I commit to putting all my energy into this important mission, as there is no time to waste. The challenges ahead demand immediate and decisive action,” he emphasized.

He outlined his principal objectives:

To make transport more competitive, sustainable, and smart, bridging distances and enhancing infrastructure to be safer, modern, and resilient.
To maintain Europe’s position as a global leader in tourism, blending local traditions with innovation and sustainability.
To further strengthen the maritime sector, boosting its contribution to growth.
“I aim to ensure that the policies we implement over the next five years will improve the daily lives of European citizens, from cities and villages to islands and the most remote areas of Europe,” Tzitzikostas said. College of Commissioners expected to take office on 1 December.
