English Premier League table 2023/24: Updated EPL standings as Man City go top, Burnley relegated | Sporting News United Kingdom

The penultimate weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League season began with
Manchester City easing to a 4-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage

.

Josko Gvardiol took his recent tally to five goals in seven league games as he scored twice, either side of a Phil Foden finish, to help the champions move top of the standings. Julian Alvarez capped the win with a late penalty.

The pressure is now on Arsenal, who know they must beat Manchester United on Sunday if they are to regain the summit, although City will have a game in hand after that match at Old Trafford. That comes away to Tottenham on Tuesday, May 14.

Liverpool are now officially out of the title race, meaning their match at Aston Villa on Monday will have far greater importance to the home side
in their bid to qualify for the UEFA Champions League

At the other end of the table, Burnley were relegated after losing 2-1 despite taking the lead at Tottenham, whose win puts pressure on Villa in fourth. Luton also went ahead before going down 3-1 at West Ham. Although the Hatters are not mathematically gone, their vastly inferior goal difference to fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest means they will be playing Championship football next season.

Forest looked set to confirm Luton’s relegation when Callum Hudson-Odoi gave them a 2-1 lead against his former club Chelsea before late goals from Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson snatched a late win for the visitors at the City Ground. The result moves Mauricio Pochettino’s side level on points with Newcastle United and firmly in contention for a Europa League spot heading into the final week of the season.

The Sporting News will update the table below and break down each of the key races throughout the 2023/24 season.

Champions League spots, European places 2023/24

In 2023/24, there was a scenario in which the Premier League could see the top five teams all qualify for the UEFA Champions League had England finished as one of the top two performing nations in European club cup competitions. However, those hopes are now over.

If the FA Cup winner or Carabao Cup winner finishes in the top four, the European berth that accompanies that title would go to the next team in the Premier League standings not already qualified for Europe.
