England’s Euro 2024 squad LIVE: Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire miss out

Southgate promises to give England’s Euro 2024 squad selection ‘respect and consideration’ it deserves

Jack Grealish and James Maddison have been cut from England’s Euro 2024 squad with Gareth Southgate opting for emerging talent over established names.

Harry Maguire could not recover from injury in time to play in Germany, leaving the Three Lions vulnerable at the back.

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones was also cut, while his club teammate Jarell Quansah also failed to make the final squad. The pair were surprise inclusions in the 33 and were not given minutes against Bosnia to fight for their place. Brenford striker Ivan Toney survived the final cut, but Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford drops out.

Crystal Palace most represented club

Crystal Palace are the club most represented in England’s final Euro 2024 squad with four players selected. That shows how brilliant the Premier League side were towards the end of the season.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson, defender Marc Guehi, midfielder Adam Wharton and forward Eberechi Eze all make the 26-player squad.

Premier League champions Manchester City and runners-up Arsenal each have three players in the squad.

Will Southgate regret dropping Jarrad Branthwaite?

One of the players that flew under the radar in England’s 33-man preliminary squad was Jarrad Branthwaite. The 21-year-old centre back has had a fine season for Everton in the Premier League but Southgate decided his services are not needed.

That’s a risky call from the manager especially with Harry Maguire not fit and Lewis Dunk rumoured to have a knock as well. Marc Guehi and John Stones look set to become the main central defence partnership and could start alongside each other tomorrow night against Iceland.
